Chinese Alzheimer’s drug gets U.S. approval for stateside trial
Chinese drug maker Shanghai Green Valley Pharmaceutical Co., has received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to start clinical trials in the US for a breakthrough Alzheimer’s drug, reports Bloomberg. The FDA has allowed Green Valley to skip earlier phases and to go straight into a large-scale phase III trial, preceding filing for regulatory approval. This highlights the urgent need for Alzheimer’s treatment as an estimated 50 million people worldwide live with dementia, with Alzheimer’s being the cause in as many of 70 per cent of the cases.
