"I don't think animal experiments make sense in this scenario if cell studies are positive, because (a) we know ABL is safe when given for two years, and to treat covid it would be used for only days or weeks, and (b) animal experiments in any species, even monkeys, might not give a reliable measure of efficacy in humans. Animal experiments would waste valuable time."

I think it depends on whether apabetalone would be developed to prevent coronavirus infection/replication, or alternatively to restrain inflammation, acute phase response and cardiopulmonary problems that seem to be associated with severe coronavirus cases.
