confidence. They won't put all the fanfare like last time because they were hurt.. by the lacklaster BoM results. So, this time they're just keep it contained.
However, in their minds, they're very very confident. This COVID-19 trial will work because apabetalone has 2 MoAs - ACE2 inhibiton and anti-inflammatory. Reduced ACE2 access will inhibit virus entrace into cells (ACE2 is highly expressed in the lungs and upper respiratory tract). Even if the virus does get into the cells (which will bc it won't be 100% blockade), it still dampens the immune response in the host. This dual MoA is just so perfect for COVID-19.
Plus, safety. Big pharmas are working on small molecule antivirals. I'm sure they're going to come up with antiviral therapies. I don't know how safe they would be though. For example, valacyclovir and acyclovir for treatment of herpes virus, they're very very clean drugs (due to virus specific MoA, meaning not touching host cells). Other antivirals like HIV drugs, eg. NNRTIs, have diverse side effects (maybe more pronounced bc host immune systems is already compromised?)
The COVID-19 patients who can benefit the most from treatment would be those are most severly affected. These people are already very sick. I dont' know if they can tolerate some of antiviral side effects.
If COVID-19 trial is positive, the company can get deals with gov'ts. (or is it not?) Then, money would start pouring in and can push forward BoM2 with that money. Or just forget abt it bc cash is just too sweet.
If nothing works, can we put on reddit (given positive result from COVID-19 trial)?
