More competition!

Is apabetalone one of the 18 drugs they identified?

Was it a big mistake for RVX to go up against Canadian bureaucracy? Or Canadian ethics committees...and possibly various degrees of incompetency? What else can explain this stall at this point?

Then again, where else can you go?

Almost one month has passed since the AGM on June 22nd, and here we still sit in the traffic stall!

This is totally nutso!

Arkin, who is part of a Hebrew University center that specializes in reusing existing drugs, said he has reviewed more than 3,000 drugs for suitability, in what he describes as research with a needle in a haystack. This approach may provide a fast track to finding treatments because the drugs have already been tried and tested, and he hopes to work with a pharmaceutical company to quickly get the drugs he has identified clinically tested for COVID-19.

“We have the vaccine, but we shouldn’t be resting on our laurels, and I would like these drugs to be part of the arsenal we are using to fight the coronavirus,” he said.

Arkin and his team culled through a library of more than 2,800 approved-for-use compounds, identifying 18 drugs they felt could be effective. In unpublished work, the researchers were able to show that several of these compounds “exhibited remarkable potency against the whole virus in in vitro experiments.”

Two of them are Darapladib, used for the treatment of atherosclerosis, and Flumatinib, used for the treatment of certain blood cancers. Arkin said he was hesitant to share the names of any of the drugs, adding that he could not recommend them until they underwent proper clinical trials.
