sidebar - I think you may have misinterpreted something. DM was talking about the cost to purchase a pill being around $7 not the cost to produce it. In the COVID use situation we do not know yet how long patients will be dosed so get out you pencil. The current trial is set for 28 days of dosing however that may be reduced to 14 or even 10. Remember there are 2 pills per day. Let's start with the lowest end and guess from there. 2 X 10 $7 or about $140 per 10 day course. Adding another 4 days would take it to $196 per 14 day course and $392 per 28 day course.
I don't ever recall DM talk about cost of production or distribution so someone with pharma experience will have to fill in the blanks there. My best guess is margins or 30% to 60% but I have no foundation for those guesses.
To wrap this now for COVID alone a profit of $60 to $100 per patient for a 10 day course is not far from what we might see. For CVD patients it's a very different story as you are then looking at daily use all year round.
Those are very rough numbers and we don't know whether he was talking C$'s or US$'s.
