Drilling begins on new discovery at Northern Empire Mine - Roxmark launches airborne geophysical survey on Leitch-Sand River Mine property

    TORONTO, Aug. 18 /CNW Telbec/ - Roxmark Mines Limited (TSXV-RMK) today
announced that it has contracted with Firefly Aviation Ltd. to fly a
helicopter-borne High Resolution Aeromagnetic (HRAM) survey over the
Leitch-Sand River Mine property. The 1,421 line-kilometre survey with 50-metre
spacing is expected to be completed shortly and will assist in the
identification of mineralized structures that control known gold
mineralization on the property.
Depending on results of the survey, Roxmark plans a diamond drilling
program on the property in the winter of 2009/10. The Leitch-Sand River Mine
is located 10 kilometres from Roxmark's Northern Empire mill in Beardmore,
Ontario and encompasses the Leitch Mine, once Canada's richest.
Operated continuously over a period of nearly 30 years and producing
847,900 oz with an average ore grade of 0.92 ounces per ton, the Leitch Mine
was shut down in 1965 as a result of US$35/oz gold and boundary disputes which
Roxmark has eliminated by acquiring the Sand River Mine. At just over 3,000
feet, The Leitch Mine was shallow by the standards of top producers in nearby
camps. It never ran out of gold at depth and both ore grade and vein width
increased with depth. Mining records of the time record several drill assays
of more than two ounces per ton over 2 feet located 100 feet below the 30th
level.
At the Northern Empire Mine, the drilling contractor has mobilized the
drill rig to begin 3,000 metres of planned drilling. The program is directed
to test the new discovery of a high-grade zone identified by the 2008 HRAM
survey and exposed by stripping and channel sampling. Positive results to date
returned values up to 36.4 g/t of gold. (For more details, please refer to
news releases of June 24 and July 23, 2009.)

About Roxmark Mines

Roxmark Mines Limited is the leader in gold and molybdenum exploration
and development in the historically significant Geraldton-Beardmore area of
Northwest Ontario. In addition to the Hardrock Project in the Geraldton Camp,
Roxmark is pursuing a number of initiatives in the Beardmore Camp, including
re-opening the Northern Empire Mine and its onsite mill and expanding the
resource base at the Leitch-Sand River Mine. In recent years, Roxmark has
generated cash flow from bulk-sampled gold and molybdenum processed at its
fully-permitted mill and has the advantage of infrastructure from nine
formerly highly productive gold mines located on its properties. These mines
previously produced nearly four million ounces of gold from high-grade ore but
were closed primarily due to boundary issues and dramatically lower gold
prices at the time.
