From Rockets to MRIs - A Multi-Use Gas in Short Supply
Royal Helium Ltd. (TSXV: RHC) (OTCQB: RHCCF), a leading exploration, production, and infrastructure company specializing in helium and associated gases, has reached a significant milestone with the completion of its Steveville helium purification facility. The plant, located in southeast Alberta near Brooks, has now begun its operational phase.
The Steveville plant, designed to process 15,000 mcf/day of raw gas from two of Royal's 100% owned helium wells, boasts an impressive output capacity of approximately 22,000 mcf of 99.999% pure helium per year. Moreover, this facility aligns with three-year purchase commitments from Royal's two key offtake partners within the major North American aerospace and space launch industries, at an average helium price of USD $538 per mcf (CAD $730/mcf).
What sets this project apart is its remarkable economic efficiency. The Steveville facility is largely self-powered, utilizing fuel gas co-produced from the helium wells to run its operations. This low operating cost model has significant financial implications for Royal, positioning them as an industry leader.
The state-of-the-art purification plant prioritizes environmental sustainability, recovering 99.999% helium while maintaining exceptionally low carbon emissions. This focus on eco-efficiency goes beyond helium, with virtually all the inert by-product gases captured and sold at the facility, providing additional revenue streams. The ancillary methane gas produced is also recycled to power the facility and can even generate excess power to contribute back into the electrical grid.
Additionally, the Steveville plant is set to benefit from carbon credits under the Technology Innovation and Emissions Reduction System ("TIER system") in Alberta. The monetization of these credits will serve as an additional revenue source for Royal, further strengthening its financial standing.
With a strong commitment to sustainability and forward-thinking production practices, Royal Helium is well-positioned as a key player in the North American helium industry, providing a cleaner and more environmentally responsible source of this critical, non-renewable resource. Andrew Davidson, President & CEO of Royal Helium, emphasizes that this significant step will make Royal the first publicly listed helium producer in Canada. This milestone marks a pivotal moment for Royal Helium and its stakeholders, and the company is primed for a prosperous future in the helium sector.
