Tantalum is one of the refractory metals, which also include Tungsten, Niobium and Rhenium. It is used in electornics, mostly in capacitors, and is also used in the medical and nuclear industries as well. It has an extremely high melting point, and is highly resistent to corrosion.

How do you get it? You dig the ore, tantalite, out of the ground. ;-)
