Spot platinum slipped nearly 9 per cent to $872 an ounce from $955 late in New York on Wednesday, while palladium fell nearly 11 per cent before recovering to $168.50 from $189 on Wednesday.
Per the recent BMO Commodities report, Pt prices below ~$1300/oz makes 65% of the mines in South Africa - where 80% of the world's Pt is produced - unprofitable. I don't really see how that could continue, unless the world can find a replacement for the metal.
