The fact that Wynn Drilling purchased a Boyles 56 drill is coffee shop talk and hasn't been verified.
I don't think the cost of an 8000 foot hole in the Canadian shield would be as expensive as in the Rockies, but 3 holes drilled in near Kimberley, B.C. about 4 years ago by Stikine Resources were in the Neighbourhood of $1M each and required special rods and stepped casing.
If our Rookie Investor had his way we would need another $50M in flow thru to accomplish his drill program and hopefully the Canadian Government will keep renewing the program as it is typically on a 2 year renewal. I would guestimate 2 months plus per hole to drill so about an 8-10 year drill program. Would definitely set some records.
A 56 drill has a bigger chuck capable of handling larger casing and can pull the heavier drill rod string. Probably in excess of 40,000 lbs of drill rods in an 8000ft string plus friction. Changing bits is hard on the helper.
Seems to me it would easier and more economical to drill to 4000 ft from surface and then drill 1200 up and 2000 down from the deep east decline to test the full depth of the deposit.
JMHO and I'm not a geologist so it's only speculation.
