Debenture confusion

interest owing in the amount of $426,524 was paid in cash. Convertible debentures with a principal value of $100,000 were repaid in cash.
Why would anyone take cash for their debentures when they could have taken stock at $1.40. I realize it is a small amount, but what gives.
