21, I was knocked out of the Main event at 12:48:35 on my first day of play. At 13hrs into the event everybody left advanced to the next level.
I hadn't played a hand for for a couple of hrs and was in "poker terms" short chipped. ($27,000, we started play with $20,000). Blinds were increasing, so at some point I would be forced to make a move.
12 minutes to go and I advance, so be it short chipped.
I'm dealt a pair of KK's, second time during the session. I'm on the button, with no raises ahead of me I bet $2500 which as an opening bet, with the exception of a few all in's, was relatively high. The small blind calls. (I couldn't call with his hand even if I'm chip leader!)
The flop is K6A. Small blind checks, I bet $2500. He pushes me All-in. I call because I knew if he had AA in the hole he's All-inn before the flop. we roll our cards and he shows A6. The turn was a rag, the river an A! In mining terms "he hit a hot hole!"
C'est la vie!
My error possibly was not pushing All-in before the flop, although this player had made some "crazy moves" and won them all, consequently was chip leader at the table! Tough to go against big stacks short chipped, because they have "no fear!"
My other option was laying down the KK's and waiting for another day, after all it's a game of survival, not just winning!
I know I made the right play, just the "timing" was terrible! Although in hindsight, I should have "layed down" the KK's!
Next year.
