Hi DC: very few are near production. I'm sorry I don't have the numbers but I would say a few percent are new producers or near production in the next year or two Very few have completed bankable feaseability studies. There are some interesting open pit plays out there that look fabulous and some have anywhere from 2 million to 10 million ounces...a few of which can probably be fired up within a year or so since it is far less costly and less time comsuming than shaft mining. You can find them in Canada, South America, Mexico, Africa...even Romania. The catch can sometmes be permiting and environmental concerns. They are usually low grade..anywhere from .5gm/Ton to 3 or 4 gm/T. Anything higher is a bonanza for near surface , open pit discoveries.
Maybe others here have something to add.
