You mentioned that the air vent is located around the Poorman- Illinois Central area. The Poorman Mine complex map from Piper and Laney, 1926, pg. 137, shows 17 shafts/adits accessing the Poorman complex. The length between the northern and most southern entrance to the Poorman complex is .72 miles.
