Here's a picture of a 40 lb bar: link
Looks to be maybe 8" x 3-4" x 2". That's about twice or two and a half times the volume of the SFMI bar. I'd guess the SFMI bar is something under 20 lbs (oryx calculated 18.3 based on bluesideup's size estimates).
