Message: How much is SFMI worth?

Spiny regarding your comment:

"Goldcorp paid $3.6B for what was then a reserve of 2.5M oz, or about $1440/oz. That figure is very high for gold in the ground, and even with the increased reserve numbers, it's still $765/oz"

How could they pay that much or what company would pay that kind of price per oz in the future. Unless I'm missing something, that doesn't seem to be a smart or even economically feasible purchase price because beyond the purchase price, Goldcorp still has to get the PM's out of the ground and process them and that's a lot of costs of which labor, fuel, and milling costs would be at least another few hundred per oz even if the metal is laying on the ground? What am i missing? Thanks, Khaki
