"U.S. is Heading Towards a Serious Energy Crisis"
John Hofmeister, President Shell Oil Company
John Hofmeiste was interviewed recently on the Charlie Rose program. He said , "The U.S. is heading towards a serious energy crisis."
Mr. Hofmeiste said, he has traveled across the U.S. meeting with many of the city mayors, who have expressed privately they are preparing for the possibility of civil disturbance because of gasoline shortages.
Mr. Hofmeister said that the U.S. oil refineries infrastructure is over 30 years old and is in constant need of maintenance to keep them operating. Because there has not been any new oil refineries built in the U.S; he is faced with making the decisions which service stations across the country will continue to receive the companies supply of gasoline. The country needs new oil refineries built to keep up with the growing demand.
