Who do they sell to?: Since the shares are in your account, I guess they are picked up by the same MM system that buys your real shares from you when you sell them.

How they "borrow" shares in the first place and return them in the second place, I'd guess is by having the proper access to the electronic trading system. How they do this naked (create fake shares) is even more confusing
