POSTED May 19, 11:31 AM The debate about using coal - an abundant U.S. energy resource (check out U.S. Dept. of Energy statistics here) - to produce gasoline has mainly centered on whether the process can actually reduce prices at the pump, and whether something can be done about coal's carbon emissions. FutureCoalFuels.org is a site with many features about coal-to-liquids technology. Keep in mind this is an industry site, so of course some folks will question the information, but it does provide a better understanding of the CTL process. If you're looking for more information about coal-to-liquids, CNN last week broadcast two features on the technology - an overview by Ali Velshi, a CNN senior business correspondent, on the potential for using coal to produce gas in the U.S., and a second piece by reporter Deb Feyerick on how a new CTL technology can reduce carbon emissions. The DOE also provides its own information about CTL as part of its "Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy" initiatives. You can find the data about CTL here. |
