Good thing they taught us some of their secrets. Might come in real handy soon. I remember alot of meals of macaroni (homemade, not that boxed junk) and some slices of tomato and big glasses of milk because Dad had been cut back to 3 days a week at the foundry and had 5 kids to feed. Cucumber sandwiches, yum. Chipped beef or creamed corn on toast. Those were big meals. Homemade jellies and jams, pickles and all kind of jarred fruit and vegetables from the yard. My Mom learned well from her Mom. My Dad got to use some land owned by the company and planted huge gardens to feed us and to sell. Us kids worked a lot of hours in those gardens but it was fun and well worth it. My kids are all planting gardens this year.
