Tony Anselmo was born March 14, 1918 in Michel, BC. He has been actively involved with the Calgary Stampeders Football Club since 1973 and The McMahon Stadium Society since 1974. Under his direction McMahon Stadium was converted from a pro sports facility to a multi-purpose amateur/professional facility. His time and dedication helped successfully fundraise over $32,000,000.00 worth of improvements to McMahon Stadium. The improvements were always made with the Calgary Stampeder Football Club and the Calgary football community in mind.

Anselmo played a major role during the 1986-1987 “Save our Stamps” campaign. He successfully lobbied Calgary’s City council to contribute significant funding each year to cover amateur sports use of McMahon Stadium, thus reducing the Calgary Stampeder Football Club’s rental charges.

In 1991, Anselmo was a major partner in the successful transition of the Calgary Stampeder Football Club from a community-based team to private ownership. His leadership and initiative were invaluable in the 1995 and 2001 transfer to private ownership of the Calgary Stampeder Football Club.

Tony Anselmo is a founder and a director of the Calgary Stampeder Football Club Wall of Fame Committee. He is also an active member of the Calgary Stampeder Alumni Association. In 2000 he was inducted onto the Calgary Stampeder Football Club’s Wall of Fame in the builder’s category and in 2001 he was inducted into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame and Museum as a football builder.
