CANADIAN SUPERIOR ENERGY INC. ANNOUNCES MR. M.E. (MIKE) COOLEN AS CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

Canadian Superior Energy Inc. has appointed M.E. (Mike) Coolen as chief executive officer of Canadian Superior. Mr. Coolen joined Canadian Superior in 2001 and has been the president and chief operating officer of the company since April, 2006. Mr. Coolen is also a director of the company.

Since joining Canadian Superior in July, 2001, Mr. Coolen has been responsible for Canadian Superior's operations offshore Trinidad and Tobago, in North Africa, offshore Nova Scotia, and a variety of corporate management responsibilities associated with several senior management positions. Directly prior to joining Canadian Superior, Mr. Coolen was a senior manager with ExxonMobil Canada, including being one of the senior managers overseeing the approximately $3-billion Sable Island offshore natural gas project, offshore Nova Scotia.

A veteran of over 35 years in the oil and gas business, 20 years with Mobil Oil Canada, Mr. Coolen has been involved in numerous oil and gas projects and natural gas processing and gas gathering projects, both onshore and offshore. He holds a bachelor of science degree from Dalhousie University, a bachelor of mechanical engineering with distinction from Nova Scotia Technical College and has a variety of postgraduate training, including courses at Dalhousie University, Texas A&M and Oklahoma State University. He is a professional engineer and a member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Nova Scotia and the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta.

Craig McKenzie, Canadian Superior's previous chief executive officer, has stepped down to pursue other interests and is no longer with the company nor a director.
