Mining giant Goldcorp Inc., a majority shareholder in Terrane Metals Corp., said this week the proposed $900-million Mount Milligan gold and copper mine is an outstanding and construction-ready gold project.
The project is the closest proposed mining project to Prince George, 155 kilometres northwest of the city.
"Goldcorp continues to work closely with the Terrane board of directors to make the commercial development of Mt. Milligan a reality," Goldcorp president and CEO Chuck Jeannes said following Terrane's annual general meeting.
Goldcorp's support for the project is considered key.
As a first step towards project financing, Terrane shareholders approved in the summer of 2008 a joint venture option agreement with Goldcorp.
The company guaranteed a credit facility of $40 million for Terrane Metals which had an 18 month option, expiring Jan. 8, 2010, to convert its equity interest in Terrane into a participating joint venture interest in the Mt. Milligan project.
