Business VoIP Penetration to Grow Rapidly: Report

By Stefania Viscusi, Assignment Desk Editor

The number of businesses having at least one VoIP solution deployed at their location has climbed over the last year. As a result, research firm In-Stat (News - Alert) is forecasting that VoIP penetration for U.S. businesses will reach 79 percent by 2013.

According to their latest research, “US Business VOIP Overview: Optimization Trumps Expansion,” at the end of 2009 there was 42 percent VoIP penetration rate among businesses in the U.S.

According to In-Stat Analyst, David Lemelin, “VoIP adopters have a good understanding of the cost savings associated with VoIP, and have oriented their limited budgets to optimizing efficiency and savings by replacing legacy TDM voice solutions.”

Lemelin also said that with the economic conditions forcing businesses to open fewer locations than was seen in recent years, and the push to cut down costs – investments in VoIP technology are increasing at headquarter locations to help maximize efficiency and savings.

Other findings from the research note that IP telephony revenues will grow and “more than double by 2013 compared to 2008.”

This growth, the research found, can be attributed to “user applications among increasingly distributed and mobile workforces.”

Also, the research uncovered that hosted IP Centrex has now surpassed Broadband IP Telephony as the leading revenue-generating, carrier-based business VoIP solution.

Hosted business VoIP provider Nextiva offers “Connect360,” a solution that reduces communications costs for small businesses. Starting at just around $20 a month, the solution includes IVR, voicemail, dial-by-name, call transfer, find me/ follow me, and a host of other features that larger businesses were once only able to afford.
