LONDON (MarketWatch) -- Analysts at Citigroup upgraded Arch Coal Inc. /quotes/comstock/13*!aci/quotes/nls/aci (ACI 25.29, +0.27, +1.08%) to buy from hold and Patriot Coal Corp. /quotes/comstock/13*!pcx/quotes/nls/pcx (PCX 21.98, +0.16, +0.73%) to hold from sell after the firm's commodity team lifted its price forecast for bulk commodities including metallurgical coal. Citigroup said it remains cautious on thermal coal, but added the surge in metallurgical coal will benefit all producers in its coverage in varying degrees. The firm said it still prefers Alpha Natural Resources /quotes/comstock/13*!anr/quotes/nls/anr (ANR 52.89, -0.11, -0.21%) and Peabody Energy /quotes/comstock/13*!btu/quotes/nls/btu (BTU 46.35, +0.23, +0.50%) for metallurgical coal exposure.
