You're absolutely right. First the liquidity dries up because buyers sit on the sidelines, so it doesn't take much selling to drop prices. Heck, I'm having trouble selling without forcing prices down (sorry about that).

Low volume down days are common in the early part of a correction, but when sellers get serious, the bottom falls out. We're not there yet, but I think it's just a matter of time.
