Yeah, that rings a bell. The term tracking list / model portfolio sure sounds like investment advice - I don't know what else it could be. It certainly looked good in 09 when the juniors were bouncing back from the 08 debacle. 09 was a terrific year for high beta stocks. Reminds me of the old saying - "Don't confuse brains with a bull market."
While I haven't been paying attention of late, I'm sure the tracking list / model portfolio would have taken a pretty serious bath since Venture cracked in March 2011. I can see why Peter would want to make it disappear. Sometimes I wish I could make my posts disappear too, lol.
It supports my thesis that blindly following a single guru is a very bad idea - it could eventually lead to portfolio death. It's no slam against Peter, but no one can be right all the time. When a market or sector is in decline, it's very difficult to pick winning stocks.
All that said, perhaps Peter's dropping of the tracking list is a sign of capitulation/despair for the juniors. I just read Peter's July 3 post on the juniors - he sure seems discouraged. I take that as a positive sign. He expects an L shaped recovery for the juniors because of tax loss selling. I disagree - the last couple of years have not been kind to investors in Canadian stocks - I seriously doubt many investors have the need to offset a lot of realised profits. I suspect the juniors may bump around for a while, but I do expect a decent rally later this year.
