Focused on the Rice Lake Gold Belt
On the Poundmaker property a northeast trending shear zone appears to be the loci for at least two gold showings, the Roderick and the Rios, and possibly several others including the Grand Central. This shear zone, although recognized initially by early mappers of the Rice Lake "greenstone belt", has not been published on recent geological maps, therefore, the historical showings and the shear zone itself have remained under-explored.
The Roderick showing comprises numerous historical trenches along one or more quartz veins, averaging one meter in width, and occurs at the contact of a basic dike intruding a granodioirite pluton. Historical assay results from surface grab and channel samples range from trace to 17.2 g/t gold. During a brief site visit to the showing Wildcat geologists collected four samples which returned the following assays 9.67 g/t, 9.39 g/t, 5.7 g/t and 50 ppb gold. In 1981 Noranda geologists recommended a diamond drill program to test these showings but no drilling was conducted (assessment file 93030, Winnipeg Assessment Office).
The Rios showing lies 1.6 kilometers northeast of the Roderick showing, possibly along the same shear zone hosting the Roderick. There is no historical assay information from the Rios. The showing comprises several trenches along a shear zone hosting a 1 to 2.9 meter wide (minimum) quartz-iron carbonate vein with disseminated to semi-massive sulphides. Sampling by Wildcat geologists of the Rios showing proved difficult because of overburden and present high levels of water. Random grab samples assayed from 2.3 g/t up to 16.9 g/t. A "partial" channel sample (one end of vein not exposed) from one trench returned 3.4 g/t over 2.86 meters. The vein is open to the northeast where it is covered by overburden. There is no recorded diamond drilling on this showing.
Projected to the southwest, the shear zone hosting the Roderick and Rios showings can be traced sequentially through two occurrences and the old Grand Central shaft. The Grand Central showing which hosts auriferous quartz veins lies approximately 2.95 kilometers from the Roderick. The aforementioned, two, occurrences have yet to be examined by the company.
In summary preliminary re-evaluation of historical data in conjunction with a brief field site visit by Wildcat has identified a prominent auriferous shear zone with a minimum strike length of 4.5 kilometers that is under-explored and does not appear to have been drill tested (?). Subsequent to the recent discovery of these showings protection claims have been staked, to the northeast, where mineralization is postulated to continue and little exploration conducted. The company will focus significant efforts in exploring this extensive mineralized trend.
