Why did I buy Tiomin? From an idealistic view point titanium dioxide is proving to be the low cost solution to affordable solar cells (check www.dyesol.com and http://www.azom.com/details.asp?ArticleID=2210) and potentially a way to generate hydrogen gas from straight sunlight and water (http://www.azom.com/details.asp?newsID=1895).
They have a mining licence to potentianlly the largest titanium mining project in the world, in Kenya, representing 3.2 billion tonnes or 14 percent of the world’s titanium resources. Very exciting.
I'd like to see some more support for these guys. Besides their own web site, www.tiomin.com, I found www.bdafrica to be very helpful.
A recent webcast/radio program titled Kenya: Mine Controversy had a reporter interviewing local residents about how they felt about the project. The people interviewed did not appear to be against the project. In fact most seemed anxious to see the project continue so they could gain employment. More importantly a good community infrastructure would be born from the project such as a power station and clean water supply.
I'll post the link to the hour long web cast if people can't find it on their own as long as I'm not breaking any rules.
