Tirex Resources' First Hole in New Zone Intersects 61.5m (202 ft) of Mineralization Including Strong Copper, Zinc, Gold and Silver Grades
VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Jan. 13, 2009) - Tirex Resources Ltd. ("Tirex") (TSX VENTURE:TXX) is pleased to announce assays from the first drill hole in the Letitna Zone at the Mirdita VMS Project in Albania. The drill hole intersected a 61.5 metre (202 ft) section grading 0.57% Copper, 1.56% Zinc and 0.7g/t Gold including 2.5 metres grading 2.86% Copper, 3.09% Zinc and 2.0g/t Gold, 1.9 metres grading 0.24% Copper, 4.38% Zinc and 6.0g/t Gold, and 8.2 metres grading 3.47% Zinc, and 1.9g/t Gold. This wide intersection is interpreted to be close to true width based on observed core angles.

Summary of assay results from drill hole MR08-37:

In addition to the mineralization reported in the table, a second zone of disseminated to semi-massive pyrite mineralization was encountered at 330-360m. At 360m the drill rods broke off and the hole was lost while still in mineralization. Tirex plans additional holes in this area to vector in on and test the heart of the zone reported in the table and to fully test this second deeper zone of mineralization. The very wide 61.5m (202 ft) mineralized intersection and the presence of at least two stacked zones of VMS mineralization encountered in this initial hole may be indicative that Letitna is an area of the District with a strong and long lived mineralizing system with potential for producing deposits of significant size.

Drill hole MR08-37 was drilled on the Letitna target area located 3.5km southeast of the Koshaj Deposit and 1km southeast of the Gurthi South No. 2 Zone. In 2008 Tirex announced wide zones with high grade drill intersections at both Koshaj and Gurthi South No. 2 with further assay results from Gurthi South No. 2 pending (see www.TirexResources.com for a summary of past drilling and a location map for the Letitna Zone).

George Gorzynski, P.Eng. and Director, states, "Letitna is the third zone of precious metals-rich VMS mineralization Tirex has drilled on the property in the past year. This is another step toward developing Mirdita into a District with multiple high grade deposits. All three zones drilled to date are copper- and zinc-rich and in addition, all three contain high gold values. Historically, gold values at Mirdita were a State secret and it is only now that the significant gold potential of the District is being realized. In 2009 our aggressive drilling program will continue to define these three zones, to test some of the other known VMS deposits on the property and to test new targets identified in our mapping and geophysical survey work."

Tirex is a company purpose-built to explore and develop the large 344 square kilometer Mirdita Property in Albania. The nature of the VMS mineralization in this District provides Tirex investors with exposure to a high grade basket of metals: Copper, Zinc, Gold and Silver. The property is readily accessible by paved and gravel roads and is located 70 km north of the capital city of Tirana. The property covers the core of the historically productive Mirdita VMS base metal district. It represents an opportunity to explore Copper, Zinc, Gold and Silver zones that were previously partially mined, explored or evaluated at lower metal prices, and provides an opportunity to apply modern exploration techniques toward the discovery of new VMS deposits and extensions of known zones. In addition to the 17 historical deposits identified by previous state-run exploration, Tirex has identified numerous high priority exploration targets resulting from the 2007 airborne geophysical survey, ongoing ground geophysics, geological mapping and other field work. The Mirdita exploration project is managed by an experienced team of Canadian geologists and other professionals, and several senior Albanian geologists, geophysicists and surveyors.

John Nicholson, P.Geo., a Qualified Person under the meaning of Canadian National Instrument 43-101 and Mirdita Project Manager, is responsible for the technical content of this news release. Drill core was HQ size (6.35cm diameter) and BTW size (4.20cm diameter). Half core samples were collected with a rock saw, tagged for identification and securely stored at the Tirex base camp until shipment. A total of 5% assay standards and 5% blanks were inserted into the sample shipment as a quality control measure in addition to the internal quality control measures applied by the laboratory. All samples were shipped directly to Global Discovery Labs in Vancouver, Canada where they were dried, weighed, crushed and pulverized. Splits of each pulp were then analysed for 30 elements by ICP Spectrometry and assayed for copper, lead, zinc, silver and gold by standard assay methods.

Further details on the company and the Mirdita Project can be found on the Tirex website at www.TirexResources.com.
