Why is a regional currency inevitable? I can see little advantage for the Canadians in getting involved at the moment ... that would be like rats jumping ON to a sinking ship! Perhaps after a hyperinflation when the debts and the unfunded liabilities have been inflated away, then there could be a "fresh start" if you like.

But, at that point, wouldn't it not make more sense for people to use gold and silver again as currency, in accordance with the US constitution? It's not like you have to carry it around in bags any more, just keep digital gold and silver grams in an account backed by stored bullion in a vault.

I have a GoldMoney account and I see no reason why that could not become a regular current account at some point in the future with a cheque book and debit card. There is already talk of a cash less society so there really is no need for paper money any more other than to facilitate the needs of profligate governments and speculators.
