Correction: The Depression era funding of Con Mine was not done from Public Markets.
Last week I posted a note that claimed that Yellowknife's Con Mine was funded by money gotten from public markets.
That was incorrect.
In fact, Con Mine, started in 1936-1938, was discovered and developed by Cominco, now Teck Cominco that, at the time, was a fully integrated metal producer (Pb Zn mainly), and a subsuduary of Canadian Pacific Railway.
But, it was the Giant Mine's property that got explored and developed in the 1930's , promoted by Carl Peilsticker who mostly got his funding for that project from public markets. Neverthelesss, it wasn't until after a hugh discovery was made on the property in 1944, that led to the Mine's production four years later.
