More than a bit off topic, this question but what the hay! Baires, I'll totally understand if you erase this post.
One thing I have taken quite literally is Ruff's idea of being ready with food to survive for 6 months. When I look at how a lot of households buy groceries on a week to week basis, and how the major grocery stores here can have a run on supplies in holiday season, I can see how a temporary collapse in the supply chain could have major implications. I've already put in a substantial supply of basics. Fortunately, I've also still got a freezer full of moose, and I've got a bison tag this year. If I'm hungry enough, I'll damn well get one!
The notion of guns to protect property, or whatever is meant, seems a little foreign in rural Canada, and a especially in the North. It was nothing like that in the last depression, and will be nothing like that if the worst comes to pass this time. People cut back, learned to live sparingly, and also learned how to share.
For the record, I do have a lot of firearms and I am a decent shot. So is everyone else up here, and they've all got guns too. I would have them regardless of the current situation. I've also always believed in stocking enough ammunition to survive at hunting for a few years. That's called common sense.
