Dr. Doom
There are many personal tragedies that will accompany this deepening depression. All around the globe, perhaps hundreds of millions of people, especially the poor, will suffer the most. Those who were not poor will become poor. Those who were expecting to retire will never be able to. (This, sadly, wouldn't be much of a change here in Argentina).
Maybe you can say it's (my) jealousy, maybe, but embedded in these tragedies that I characterize, won't but be likes of Donald Trump, whose arrogance may no longer shine on prime time TV. Or, for that matter, the glorified "Yuppie- types", who may not continue to accelerate their financial distance from the poor on the other end of the economic spectrum. (It'll be interesting to see if that long-term ever widening rich/poor gap starts to close).
And, who knows, maybe in the midst of all the anticipated civil strife and disorder, there might arise the greater sense of shared responsibility within generous, neighborly communities...(Am I sounding a little like Obama on the stump?)
What I'm saying is, that Dr. Doom's economic nightmare may have some light in the awful darkness of this upcoming extended depression even if he and his buddies have to pay extra for their first class air tickets.
Cheers,
Baires
