Tyhee short position

posted on Jun 04, 2009 10:34AM

I was just looking at the history of the Tyhee short positions, and they have gone up from nearly zero to 120,000 or so (Dec 2007), and 130,000 as of today. Every time there is a financing, the short number jumps up prior. The only time in the last 3 years that there was such a big jump in short position, in fact, was December 2007 (the last major financing). At that time, share price stayed flat during the run-up to the financing, as the short rose, and then jumped 20% when financing closed.

I'm not sure how people play this short position, but I think it is a large investor who can sell not only a short position, but also sells his own shares to keep the price down prior to the financing, then takes advantage of the increase in value after (in asset value if not always in share price). It seems to me to be artificially keeping a lid on the price, and gobbling up as much of the benefit after. If so, this can only be done if Tyhee really does have value, and this player participates in the finanicng. IF this understanding is correct, then it would mean to me that the private placement soon to close was basically successful, and that we may see a good bump after (and no more lid on the share price).

Tyhee net short position today is 130,000, up from near zero in Feb.

This must be very annoying to DW et all.
