On August 5th I posted the following, which kicked off our conversation regarding a name change:

Many have expressed their opinions, more positively than negatively, since. But there seems to be an undertone of secondary importance to the issue. That is a big big mistake in my opinion. Consider the following:

1) The SP would benefit greatly from "dumb money" as well as smart money. Presumably, we smart people all know what $10/oz gold-in-the-ground in friendly Canada is worth, and we all pat ourselves on the back (me included) frequently for being so smart. But when POG pops you want the dumb (as far as gold miners go) money runners to pick us out easily from a list of junior miners they will generate. We may never make that list with our current monicker. We don't want a closed group of 50 or so individuals telling each other how smart we are - we want others to buy shares!

2) I do not question Dr. Webb's geological competence, nor his day-to-day management of his company, delicately balancing cash vs drilling vs PAs etc. But I know - because marketing is what I do - that U.S. Gold wouldn't be worth as much as it is today if it were named U.S. Development Company, with or without McEwen at the helm. And I am sure when juniors are in demand due to a POG moonshot U.S. Gold will be worth 2 or 3 or 4 times more than if it were named U.S. Development Company.

3) Do not be meek regarding this issue. Dr. Webb has his weaknesses as we all do, and in my respectful opinion one of them is PR. Insist on a name change - don't let this issue drop. Send Dr. Webb this post if it saves you time. I would be happy to politely inform Dr. Webb myself why GG is named Goldcorp, ABX is called Barrick Gold (not Barrick Development Corp.) etc. etc. etc.
