Last year, I found Romarco to be similar in some ways to Tyhee, with some notable differences. I still believe that, and consider later 2010 to be excellent for tyhee.
But tonight, with the 2010 Winter Olympics closing very succesfully for Canada, I return to my comparison between the Vancouver 2010 Organizaing Committe (VANOC) and Tyhee.
In a previous post, I wrote about how VANOC started with just a few poople who wanted to try to develop a bid for Vancouver to host in 2010. THey had to jump through lots of hoops to even have PERMISSION to make a bid. Then they had to grow and evolve their organization thorugh the stages, through the political process, through the IOC process, the bid process, and then, once the bid won, they had to redisign their corporate structure and make a completely different organization. Rather than one that is promoting an idea, they had to become one that is buiding venues, achievieng IOC certificatino for venues by succesfully hosting events, building a staff to build and train 15,000 volunteers, and linking in with security partners like the RCMP and the Canadian Forces. HUGE job.
I wrote how Tyhee will go through an analogous process, perhaps really starting this in 2011, eventually having to move into a larger office in Vancouver, and setting up an office in YK. I've posted DW's comments on that.
But tonight, I want to say this: Many obstacles were in the way of the VANOC dream, and some believed all along. Some businesses got involved and won huge contracts (like busses, cruise ships for accommodations, catering, security firms etc), both helping the VANOC evolution and ensuring their own piece of the pie. It got a life of it's own.
With tyhee, perhaps having started this January at "roundup", and more and more with each event that DW attends, such as the upcoming PDAC, Tyhee is going through the same evolution from dream to reality. More and more pieces are comign toghter, importantly this year, and as these pieces and relatinoships with strategic partners emerge, Tyhee's mine in Yellowknife is taking a life of it's own.
I see so much in common between TYHEE and VANOC that I am inspired that the excellent job that VANOC did on the V2010 games will be matched by an equally succesful evolution through development into production of gold.
Tyhee has had a fatality, and faced some doubters and many obstacles, as did VANOC.
Both will prove to bring home the gold.
I've already got some tickets, and buy more and more when I can. Let the band-wagon fans come rusing to the stadium and offer us loads of dough for some of our tickets, when they finally see that the Gold Medal game is on. We'll alrady be in our corporate booth, sipping champaign!
GO TYHEE, GO FOR GOLD!
