I agree with your eventual outcomes Chris, and the long term analysis that you put forth. However, no matter how much you wish for an immediate run to logic in the form of mining companies, it won't happen. The kneejerk reaction will be sell the miners and buy the dollar. Violently, with no mercy for idealists. The precious metals bull, as RR loves to point out, will do everything possible to throw off as many investors as possible at the most inopportune moments. When the weak hands have capitulated, the miners will fly.
Gold the metal is a bit more problematic this second time around, if it happens. I lean towards a similar down then quickly up reaction as 2008, but perhaps more shallow and a more rapid turnaround than last time. But I'd bet a pot of gold that the miners will sink first and recover later. JMHO.
