To paraphrase what I've read over the years on the gold confiscation issue:
1. Every citizen was allowed to keep for personal use 5 ounces of gold;
2. Only one instance occurred where a safe deposit box was forced - the depositor had a large amount of bullion, this was known to the bank in question, and he refused to turn anything over, so "they" had to take action;
3. Most of the then patriotic sheeple turned over their gold anyway.
