I have to think it is an uncertain future causing the big miners (and corporations in general) to keep their cash close to their chests. Being liquid gives you options. At some point companies with a lot of cash will pull the trigger and do some bargain hunting, but it will probably happen much later than anyone thinks. I am hopful that Tyhee has a plan around the poison pill removal rather than just doing it to increase options. I guess we'll see.
