After eliminating pennies from circulation in 2013, the US Mint impatiently awaits the preconditions required to also make the nickel vanish. However, due to the fact that this coin elimination plan was done in conjunction with Canada so that each would retire their corresponding coins simultaneously, the nickel is still around in both countries. One of the requirements in the US/Canadian coin treaty is that no common stock on any public exchange be priced at less than what would be the smallest denominated coin in the realm. Since Tyhee stock is still selling for 9.5 cents Canadian (for the past five consecutive years), the nickel must be kept in circulation until Tyhee achieves a 10 cent stock price. Stay tuned.
