Message: Re-hypothecation

I took possession of my 2 largest stock certificates 2 years ago but returned them to make it easier to trade. With RBC Action Direct you apparently cannot simply 'direct register' your shares and leave them with the broker. The only option is to take possession of the certificates.

Can anyone tell me if any brokerage firms in Canada will handle 'direct registration' without the necessity of the shareholder taking physical possession of the certificates; or is the only safe, practical method to take the certificates?

Thanks,

K.
