My 18 month old just killed the first draft of this response, and now demands my attention.
To answer, I am not sure what happened. But what Hubert wrote sounds plausible to me. I have been through situations like that before myself. The day could have had other outcomes, but when a CEO no longer has the support he requires to lead the company, he may well recognize that he has lost the confidence of the board (mutinous or simply strongly inclined to go a different direction than the CEO wants), and push can definately come to shove. When this happens, and one loses the intangible that leaders thrive on, being in a leadership role, then they must move on.
The lack of comment in the NR speaks to the suddenness of this event. As I said before, the reasons behind DW's departure should come out soon enough. I just hope that they mend fences enough to make this work for the best interests of shareholders and DW, above all else, those who believed in the TDC story as told by DW.
For me, this investment now is all about the money, and no longer holds the appeal of being a part of something 'special'.
So as much as I believe that this could work out for the best, and may have been absolutely necessary, I don't like the way it appears to have been done.
Time will tell.
