I side with Hansix on the matter of getting permission to share information, assuming it's verbal information. I have seen so many times how information gets "transformed" each time it gets relayed from person to person. It is a fine line for a company to speak freely with individuals and to rely on them to repeat the information accurately with the same implications as the original discussion. If it were written info I would agree with you, but that's not the case here.
I think Hansix demonstrates a lot of class in how he approaches this issue. It would serve as a good template on how to handle these matters, IMO.
