Woody: To say that an investment in a company is "dead money" says nothing about the past, it is all about the future. It suggests that there will be no return, if any, for a very long time, and that an investment now is a waste because of the opportunity cost, ie. the money could be invested more profitably elsewhere. It suggests that an opportunity to make money in the stock will arise in future, but not now, and that it is wise to wait until that opportunity comes up. It makes no distinction between the investments people have made at higher or lower prices, and in my view is very pejorative towards a stock. And although I have invested in this stock at higher prices, I do not consider it dead money because at some point this stock is going to make me some money - I believe a lot of money. I guess if you think it is dead money then you should sell. Ike
