you may want to consider doing what I did ... Opened a TFSA .... and transferred stocks in kind to that account for the 5000 limit ... you can transfer at any price between the high and low of the day you transfer ... if you get the pop ... or even shares in exchange you can sell without capital gain and find an interest bearing vehicle which is a better choice for tax purposes in a tfsa.
