At the time of the transfer, it would be considered a deem disposition for tax purposes and if you incurred either a capital gain or loss it is required to be recorded for tax puposes.

For me it was a discount brokerage and it was just a call to the toll free line where they took my directions .... very simple ... I am a "presidents" account holder but I do not believe that was relevant.
