YAY... finally..JEFF delivers!
General Interface Solutions, a subsidiary of Foxconn, and UniPixel combine technology advantages to address flexible display market
SANTA CLARA, Calif., June 21, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- UniPixel, Inc. (NASDAQ: UNXL), a provider of advanced technology solutions to the touchscreen and flexible electronics markets, today announced it has signed an agreement for joint development of UniPixel's touch sensor technology, specifically for flexible display applications, with General Interface Solution, Limited ("GIS"), a Taiwan-based, subsidiary of Foxconn, and a billion-dollar provider of integrated touch display solutions in the mobile phone, Notebook PC, 2-in-1 laptop and tablet markets to global customers including major PC and smart phone brands.
UniPixel will be responsible for designing and manufacturing development stage sensors after GIS provides the specifications for the sensor designs. GIS will be responsible for integrating the sensors into the display stack.
The parties will share reliability and test data with one another.
UniPixel conducted tests in which its XTouch sensors were folded and opened more than 200,000 times at a 2-millimeter radius at the fold. At the conclusion of the test, there was no damage to the XTouch sensors and no degradation to their performance capabilities. For a flexible display, it will be necessary to have a thin and pliable cover lens that will bend consistently without damage. UniPixel's patented Diamond Guard™ scratch resistant cover lens technology, coupled with patented sensor circuit technique, is an excellent fit for the flexible, bendable market.
Jalil Shaikh, chief operating officer of UniPixel, commented, "We are pleased to be working with GIS, who is one of our long standing commercial partners, on this advanced technology development. Flexible technology is required for future flexible/foldable display devices such as smartphones, tablets, and wearable devices."
He continued, "We are also happy to be working with this partner who has the display expertise and scale to enter this market."
