Good quote from Roberts' book - there was the other bit somewhere (Brain has my copy right now, so can't quote exactly...maybe you can?) where Ralph gives this humungous compliment about Raul Madrid's ability to envisage formations below the ground - reminded me of talking with my dad about how to hunt submarines - actually very similar.
