per a suggestion and discussion I had with Linda D and Chad, there is now a section("what's new on the website") at the bottom right of the VIT home page.
This makes it easy for all of us to know if there has been any map change or data page amendment that would otherwise be deep into the website pages perhaps unnoticed. it will also list other major additions like presentation packages, etc.
